Great food, charming atmosphere and close to Gora station. The food takes a while to come out but it's worth the wait.
Small husband/wife combo with limited menu. Specialising in Japanese pizza and noodles. Noodles were excellent. Beer was cold. Pizza was unusual so an experiance. With not much available in the area, would recommend going.
No idea just order a fried noodle but it takes 30 mins, the quantity is really not much even less then instant noodle, flavor is ok, not special. The restaurant is small but the biggest problem is the owner allow guest to smoke cigarettes insides and it’s not separate 2 area, terrible experience and never come again.
Very interesting dish here. The okonomiyakikaji was well done.
Great food, worth the wait.
A few remaining restaurant open in around Gora station. Only open from 6pm onwards. Satisfactory food reasonable priced
Great little place, open while all the other places are not. The food is great and the (I think) old couple that run it take great pride in their food. No English menu but the guy can speak enough English to explain what they have to you quickly enough
Excellent food. Cozy little place right next to the station. Open late during the week which is nice as most everything else is closed at this time. Also prices are very fair.
Best Okonomiyaki we ever had.
Amazing people working here. The chef truly cares about cooking, and you can see it when he works. They now have an English menu, and though they don't speak much, they are fine with you pointing and holding up a number. The food is extraordinary. I would heartily suggest okonomiyaki with pork, friend noodle 2 combo with pork/shrimp and also the scallops. During our 3 day stay in Hakone, we ate here two nights.. it's just that good.
Would give negative stars if Google have this option, like other people's review, they don't take foreigners, there are many vacant tables available when we are told no seat... Should leave sign at store front for locals ONLY!Don't waste your time, not worth it.
A nice and traditional atmosphere, excellent food and not expensive.
Very delicious, prices okay. Portion size maybe a bit small and waiting for ordered food to arrive takes a bit longer than usual. Worth the wait though. English menu is available.
Small local bar, not good for parties larger than 5
Excellent menu selection with authentic Japanese cuisine and drink offerings. The menu is also well labelled with pictures and clear pricing, so no need to understand Japanese to have a great experience here. The restaurant itself is a cozy size; not too big and not too small. It's usually busy but not packed with locals and tourists alike, another good sign. This seems to be a family owned shop that is well run with excellent service and great cooking. Definitely check this out if you can. The staff here should be very proud of what they have to offer here. 10/10
Definitely not racist! Friendly and welcoming but sometimes a little stretched by numbers of people in there. Food was excellent and reasonably priced for what it is. Little delicious noodle joint, just don’t go expecting keiseke...
The restaurant has definitely some authentic Japanese charm but the food is not up to the expectations. The flavours are more then OK but the ingredients used are really low quality. The noodles with pork are in fact noodles with fatty bacon and the beef...well honestly you need to look for the meat in an ocean bowl of fat. The prices are very cheap but you definitely get what you pay for. Schade...My humble advise: get better ingredients, ask some more yens and this place will be top notch.
Authentic Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き), taste was good!
No english menu but the owners were very friendly and the food was really good. The cook looks passionate in his kitchen.Nice place, open until 11pm which is not really common in Hakone.
We would not recommend to try this shop Sincerely, because very long waiting time for the foods even no customer around. The recommend to order is the fried noddles of any meat. The taste is quite good, not salty and also quite tasty without adding any source. The Japanese pizza is quite salty and not so good. After the meal, we ask for the total cost and we are quite confused about the price. The owner is a very rude and hot temper person. We ask for the break down calculation of the total price. Finally, we slowly calculate by ourself by looking at the menu, to discover that the final price is correct. So, He got angry and yelled loudly after us left.
Great food at a good price. The owner speaks enough English to help you order. Very tasty !!
I don’t usually do reviews but this one warranted it. I was waiting outside with my girlfriend and the manager/ owner (presumably) refused to seat the group in front of us (a group of 4) and told them to leave. He also rudely told one of them to not sit on a chair outside. The chair was holding a small sign with the restaurant name on it, but he could’ve asked them to do it more politely (there also wasn’t any signage that said no one could sit there). It totally destroyed our desire to eat there as all groups went to other restaurants. We were all foreigners “gaijin” and just simply wanted to find a place to eat.
Mediocre food, bad service. A local Lawson or Family mart has better food and service. No need to waste your time here.
Only two restaurants were still open in the evening. The other restaurant was full of customers, so we came to this one. We waited half an hour outside the restaurant in dark and cold. The owner didn't allow us to wait inside. A couple runs the restaurant. The man cooked so slowly that we waited 40 mins before the food presented to us. Long waiting time (70 mins in total ). Though foods was good, we had no appetite to enjoy our dinner. If you visit Gora, I would recommend you to bring your own food or you will have to wait a long time before enjoy your meal.
Absolutely terrible! Cheap price, cheap service, cheap food. A disgrace to Japanese cuisine!
Very rude chef/owner.Totally irked by his attitude, he gave a very rude gesture to chase my family out from the restaurant when we tried to ask further. We dropped by after reading some good reviews. But seriously if I am allowed to give no star (or even negative star) at all, I will certainly do so.
Delicious okonomiyaki and yakisoba. The yakisoba is a little crispy which was a nice surprise. Only downside is it is a small restaurant, so if you get there in more than group of 3 or 4 you may get separate seating as whole restaurant only fits not more than 18-20 people (4-5 counter seats). Also, if there are many people, you may have to wait a while to get food as the one chef that was there makes the dishes one at a time. So, get there early (right when it opens at 18:00), or when there are not many people to get your food sooner!
Cheap and cheerful food with a great atmosphere. English speaking staff and menu
Food is so so; service is terrible. Do not recommend.
the cooker is extremely rude.
Best okonomiyaki so far that I ate while in Nippon combine with Beer
Great okonomiyaki! Good value for your money compared to other places in Gora.
Food is nice, but the owner-cum-cook is very rigid, would not accommodate any special request apart from 8 dishes offerred on their menu. We requested for fried noodles with extra egg due to my pregnant wife instructed to have eggs daily, and was flatly rejected. Initially I'm inclined to give 1 star, but the 2nd star is because of the delicious food. But, I'm subtracting the 2nd star, because the bar is empty, so is the restaurant, yet the owner refused to let us sit at the bar.
Amwesome food, fresh ingredients. Small area, so prepare to queue during peak hours.
There are not too many options on the menu but every serving is prepared with heartfelt dedication. It comes out delicious and leaves you wanting more but since it takes done time to make a new one, you leave satisfied...
We enjoyed having dinner at this restaurant. We were staying at Gora for the night and there were not many food establishments around. It was great having warm okonomiyaki and yakisoba in the cold night. Decent homemade food with reasonable prices. The owner is welcoming but understandably there was a long wait as the restaurant is family run (only 2 people and 10 - 15 seats) and can get really busy in the evening.
45 min wait. Well worth it. Delicious traditional food.
Did not even open when we came
Cute little traditional Japanese style eatery. Seats about 15. English menu available.Okonomiyaki and fried noodles are the main options with pork, shrimp or squid variants. Recommend the potato salad (it's delicious!). Staff speak some English and can take your order easily. Nice and cosy. I so appreciate the Japanese style of watching your food be made... Takes the guesswork out of when your order is coming. Based on the numerous expensive options in Gora this place is recommended!!
Great place for a quick bite to eat. Cheap food, large portion, and nice atmosphere.
Super good value FANTASTIC okonomiyaki ! It's a small place do you might have to wait but it's worth it
Chef takes a great pride and attention when making his dishes for clients. You can choose between fried noodles or okonomyaki (pork, shrimps, squid or shelfish) or order a bunch of perfectly cooked side dishes. I truly recommend this restaurant on your trip to Hakone. Price range from 650 to 900 jpy. Just take note that it takes time to receive your plates.
Quaint little tepanyaki restaurant behind Gora train station. It is very small and cosy and you can watch the chef preparing and cooking the meals on the hot-plate, which is quite entertaining in itself. The pork okonomiyaki was delicious and great value for money at only ¥700. Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area.
There isn't many restaurant that opens at night in Gora so this is one of the choices that you could have. They serve delicious okonomiyaki in this restaurant. It's fun to see how the chef prepare your meal in close distance. The restaurant doesn't have many seats so you'll be rejected for entry when it's full house, a quick tip is to be there when the restaurant opens.
Very nice food in a genuine Japanese place.
Great Okonomiyaki, the rest of the food is also decent but nothing amazing. Convenient to Gora station and Emblem Flow hostel. Friendly patron, english menu, and one of the few restaurants around that still allows smoking - like it or not. Cheap beer. Small room with Japanese and western style tables. Suggest the shrimp or squid Okonomiyaki - the pork is underwhelming and is basically bacon strips. Yakisoba is ok but smaller portion.
Very rude chef/owner.. Really really really small restaurant. 16 seats only. Hot, oily and stuffy. We waited 45 minutes for two okonomiyaki which tasted average. if you're in a hurry, skip this.
Vegetarian yakisoba is available on request. tasty food
Regular yakisoba (not bad, not great either), wouldn’t say racist staff like other comments but definitely not friendly. Long opening hours tho which is an up side in Gora
